Innovative methods to co-produce research & inclusive solutions to secure healthy ageing in underserved communities

Brief Biography: Dr Sophia Amenyah is a Registered Nutritionist, Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and an experienced interdisciplinary researcher with expertise in quantitative and qualitative research. She has over 10 years’ experience in nutrition research, project leadership and evaluation using innovative and transdisciplinary methods. Sophia currently works as Research Fellow at Bournemouth University. She is principal investigator on four externally funded projects from prestigious funders including the UKRI, Food4years Network, Dunhill Medical Trust and Alzheimer’s Research UK. Prior to this, she was the evaluation lead for the EU funded project, Adding to Social capital and individual Potential In disadvantaged REgions (ASPIRE).

Sophia’s research focuses on understanding the determinants of healthy ageing and co-creating model community-based interventions to improve nutrition and healthy ageing in underserved communities. She has a unique skillset in both biomedical and social science research with expertise in epigenetics, nutrigenomics, realist synthesis & evaluation, systematic reviews & meta-analysis, nutrition assessment, design and implementation of innovative digital tools. Her key research interests include healthy ageing, community nutrition, nutrition communication & translation, global nutrition, public health policies, nutrigenomics and personalised nutrition. She has a wealth of experience and expertise in co-production, equitable partnerships with communities to develop and implement robust research that influences policy.
