Poverty is Violence: The intersection of Poverty, Racism, and Gender

Hosted by ATD Fourth World as part of the parallel panels for the 68th Session of the Commission for the Status of Women

Poverty itself is violence. For many women and girls around the world, the juncture between gender and extreme poverty is a reality. Based on UN Women projections for 2022, an estimated 388 million women and girls globally live in extreme poverty. At the current rate of progress, it is estimated to take another 300 years to achieve gender equality. This virtual panel discussion will focus on the intersection of poverty, gender, racism, and violence experienced by women and girls in the global South and North.
