Decolonising the Psychology Curriculum: how can we move forward?
online
Organised by Isabella Macedo de Lucas, Gaurav Saxena, Peter Allen and Chris Kent
Join us for an engaging talk on the critical topic of decolonising psychology. In this event, we will be exploring the need to rethink and reshape the field of psychology by decentering the Western-centric perspective that dominates the discipline - focusing on research and teaching. Our two esteemed speakers, Dr Geetha Reddy and Dr Leon Moosavi, will share their perspectives and experiences on decolonisation.
Dr Geetha will talk about the psychology's colonial foundations, revealing how knowledge is produced and reproduced, then going on to share how decoloniality can be applied to research and teaching. Dr Leon will explore some of the complexities and challenges of decolonising the curriculum. In his talk, he will explore whether it is even possible to decolonise the curriculum, and if it is, the extent to which it would create meaningful change.
This event is open to all students, staff, and faculty members interested in decolonising psychology. Come join us for an inspiring and thought-provoking discussion on the future of psychology!
