Building Equitable Global Partnerships – an in-person workshop

Research Development International and The Cabot Institute for the Environment would like to invite you to an in-person workshop to explore what it means to build equitable global partnerships. All are welcome to attend, but the event is primarily aimed at early and mid-career researchers, from any discipline, who are either interested in starting to work with global partners or would like to develop these relationships further.

Following on from the online panel event in April (view a recording here), this in-person workshop will build on the issues discussed and provide an opportunity to explore the practicalities and best practice of global partnerships in more detail, as well as offering an opportunity for networking.

Global partnerships are highly rewarding but can seem daunting. There are various challenges including how international research is funded, grant terms and conditions and navigating institutional processes and policies.

Breakout sessions will be led by academic colleagues experienced in working in global partnerships, including Celia Gregson, Guy Howard, Isabella Aboderin, Sam Williamson and Jeremy Phillips. They will be covering topics such as:

  • Developing an equitable partnership
  • Co-developing a research project
  • Successful project management
  • Maintaining and nurturing collaborations

There will also be an opportunity to hear from colleagues in Professional Services, reflecting on their role in supporting global partnerships and offering their advice on how to navigate internal processes.

In addition to the workshop, the Research Development International team has developed a set of FAQs around building equitable partnerships, based on the experience of UoB researchers and professional services staff.
