Lockdowns of major parts of their economies were a common response to the spread of the COVID-19 virus in many countries across the globe. But these measures had negative consequences for economies, such as increases in extreme poverty in many countries. This webinar will explore spatial and locational differences in how households across Ghana and Kenya respectively were prepared for the COVID-19 lockdown and discuss geographical analyses of households’ potential exposures and vulnerabilities to the virus in these two countries. This research is part of a series of similar African country studies – for Ghana, Kenya, and South Africa. The findings provide useful information for better policy targeting to help improve compliance with government protocols such as lockdowns, and how vulnerable households could be supported better during such times.
