BBSRC plans to establish a single community network for artificial intelligence (AI) in the biosciences to help address a lack of AI-focussed networking opportunities relevant to biosciences in the UK.
About the network
Artificial intelligence (AI) as an area of growing interest within the biosciences research and innovation community, but there is a lack of AI-focussed networking opportunities relevant to biosciences in the UK. BBSRC now seeks to establish a single community network for AI in the biosciences to help address this identified need. Key aims for this proposed network are to:
- Create a stronger community profile for AI in the biosciences in the UK
- Facilitate networking, knowledge exchange and the formation of new collaborations
- Support greater awareness, education and training relating to AI within the bioscience community
The network will be open to a diversity of people across all career paths and stages, connecting sectors, disciplines and working cultures. For the purposes of this activity, please consider AI as covering a wide spectrum of technologies include, but are not limited to, approaches such as machine learning, deep learning, neural networks and other related technologies.
Scoping event (September 2022)
The virtual scoping event will seek community input to help shape the network.
Proposal development workshop
The output from the scoping event will inform discussions at an in-person proposal development workshop. This workshop aims to bring relevant community representatives together to start shaping one bid and agree on a leadership team. The bid will then be developed post-event for submission by mid-December that will then be subject to peer review. While the workshop is open to everyone, we primarily encourage people to attend who want to act as representative voices from their communities and potentially be directly involved in either writing the proposal, or in the network itself once funded.
Please separately register for the scoping event and the workshop.
We strongly encourage attendance of the scoping event if you wish to attend the workshop, but attendance is not mandatory.
