Anil Seth at Gloucester Road Books
A talk, Q&A and signing event with leading neuroscientist Anil Seth, chaired by Prof. James Ladyman
BA Church Hall, 160A Gloucester Road, Bristol BS7 8NT
World-renowned neuroscientist and bestselling author, Anil Seth, will be appearing at Gloucester Road Books on September 21st.
Seth will be in Bristol to mark the paperback publication of his book, Being You, in which he puts forward a radical new theory of consciousness and self. His unique theory of what it means to ‘be you’ challenges our understanding of perception and reality and it turns what you thought you knew about yourself on its head.
The book received widespread acclaim on its hardback publication last year. Gaia Vince, writing in The Guardian, called it 'Masterly . . . An exhilarating book: a vast-ranging, phenomenal achievement that will undoubtedly become a seminal text.' While The New Statesman hailed it as ‘Awe-inspiring.’ It was, also, a Book of the Year in numerous publications including The Financial Times, The Economist, Bloomberg, The Guardian and The New Statesman.
Seth will be discussing the book with James Ladyman, Professor of Philosophy at the University of Bristol and editor in chief of Studies in History and Philosophy of Modern Physics. He has been assistant, deputy and co-editor of the British Journal for the Philosophy of Science, and was honorary secretary and is President Elect of the British Society for the Philosophy of Science. He has published many articles in philosophy of science and is the author of Understanding Philosophy of Science, and (with Don Ross) Every Thing Must Go: Metaphysics Naturalised. He founded the University of Bristol’s Centre for Science and Philosophy.
The event will take place at the BA church hall on Gloucester Road on September 21st, about 100 meters down the hill from the shop. Doors will open at 7.45pm and the talk will start at 8pm. Copies of Anil’s book, Being You, will be available to purchase on the night and can be bought in advance at a reduced price when buying a ticket.
