Paul Israel

Originally from Bristol, Paul Israel began learning the piano at the age of seven. He attended the University of Bristol before studying with Richard McMahon and Leon McCawley in London.
Paul works as an orchestral and chamber pianist alongside repetiteur and accompanist playing as well. He has had multiple recordings broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and has appeared on numerous film and television soundtracks recording for Universal Music, Netflix and the BBC. He has recorded as guest soloist with BBC NOW and recently performed Rachmaninov’s Second Piano Concerto in concert. Recording highlights include soloist performances for the soundtrack to London’s New Years Eve firework displays and the 2023 Aardman/George Lucas Productions Star Wars animated film ‘I Am Your Mother’.
Paul was a finalist in the Royal Opera House’s Jette Parker Young Artist Programme in 2012, prompting an invitation to work alongside ballet pianists from then Musical Director Barry Wordsworth. He is the Principal Pianist of the Bristol Ensemble and also performs in numerous Piano Trio ensembles, including the recently formed Breathe Ensemble. He was awarded ‘Highly Commended’ as Composer in the BBC Proms Young Composer Competition.
During his studies, Paul took part in masterclasses with world-renowned pianists including Paul Lewis, Peter Donohoe, John Lill and Leslie Howard. Paul’s performance focus now leans towards chamber music playing and accompanying.
