Bristol Medical School is committed to changing its curriculum and activities to become more sustainable and we want to inspire and support our staff and students to take action as individuals. Here are some opportunities to be the change.
Climate Action Plan
Following the University of Bristol's declaration of a Climate Emergency back in 2019, each Department and School within the University are now creating Climate Action Plans (CAPs). As a School, our CAP has been divided into seven sub-groups:
- Energy & Labs
- Office & Work
- Travel & Conferences
- Green Spaces
- Sustainable Computing
- Sustainable Medical Research
- Education & Curriculum.
These groups meet every few months to exchange ideas and plan how to achieve the CAP actions and our net zero goals. Any staff member or student in the School can be a part of these sub-groups. To take part in any of these groups, please contact the School's CAP Co-ordinator Paul Savage at P.B.Savage@bristol.ac.uk.
Student opportunities
Students have the opportunity to become a Bristol SU Sustainability Champion to represent the student voice and work in partnership with academics and staff to embed sustainability across the curriculum and the academic experience. Find out more and meet our two Sustainability Champions, Lakshmi Aggarwal and Matthias Mitra.
In addition to advocacy, students can join the Climate Action Plan sub-groups and get involved in hands-on projects like recycling and sustainable medicine.
Volunteering
The University's Days to Make a Difference entitles every member of staff to an additional day of paid leave to volunteer for a good cause. We encourage our staff and students to be the change through volunteering activities in the local community and campus based initiatives. Our teams regularly support Avon Needs Trees with a day of tree planting to help fulfil its reforesting objectives.
