We are delighted to welcome you to the School of Mathematics.

You will find below information on all of the School specific activities taking place throughout welcome week and beyond. From course induction, building tours (please note that all tours on each date will follow the same route), and social events. We hope that you will be able to join us!

School welcome week timetable

Join us 15th-19th September for our School welcome activities. 

Tuesday 16th September

Welcome to the Fry Building - Brunch and Building Tours, 9am - 11.30am (Fry Building main entrance)

Join us for a free brunch and get to meet fellow students on your course.

Feel free to join us at one of our timeslots between 9:00am-10:15am or 10:15am-11:30am. Please ensure that you register here to confirm your attendance at the brunch. 

Tours of the Fry building will also take place during this time

Personal tutor meetings 9:00am - 11:30am

First Term Events and Social Activities

We have organised a variety of different activities to welcome you into the maths community and to give you the opportunity to meet with fellow students and staff. All activities are free to attend, you may however need to register. This page will be updated frequently so do keep checking! 

Maths Student Internships Panel Event and Pizza Evening - an event with students for students

Location: LG.02 and Fry Building atrium

Hear from our experience and discover what's in an internship or placement for you, how to get one and chat to our expert panel to find out more.

Our student panel will be able to talk and take questions about their industry experience from volunteering to internships and year in industry placements for mathematicians and data scientists. They will represent positions taken in business and in research so you can truly get to grips with what you can achieve in your summer break or year in industry.

Math at Work

Are you interested in applying your theoretical knowledge of mathematics to real world problems? Do you want to Learn first-hand how the skills you are developing in your studies are applied in commerce, research and development?

Then register for Maths at Work and speak directly to mathematicians, data scientists, analysts, consultants, and technical specialists from the School of Mathematics partners, our partners are selected represent a wide range of industry sectors.

Meet mathematicians in industry and explore where your degree can take you!

The Careers Service will also have a stand and there will be food and refreshments available for attendees.
