UK Knowledge Exchange Hub for Mathematical Sciences to be hosted at University of Bristol

From January 2026, the UK Knowledge Exchange Hub for Mathematical Sciences (KE Hub) will be jointly hosted by the University of Bristol’s School of Mathematics and the School of Engineering Mathematics and Technology, both within the Faculty of Science and Engineering.

Launched in 2023, the KE Hub is a national initiative designed to strengthen connections between the UK’s mathematical sciences community and partners across business, industry, and government. During this time, it was hosted by the Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences at the University of Cambridge. The hub plays a vital role in enabling knowledge exchange, nurturing collaborations, and scaling up the impact of mathematical sciences research across the UK. The KE Hub harnesses the academic power of 64 university departments and currently has 96 partners drawn from across a range of businesses, charities, industries, and government departments. It provides knowledge exchange training, first-point-of-contact activities, and valuable pump-priming mechanisms to launch collaborative, impactful, endeavours.

Colleagues across the Faculty of Science and Engineering will be working together to support the KE hub and its excellent work, with colleagues Daniel Lawson and Alan Champneys leading the efforts at Bristol.

Prof Oliver Johnson, Head of School of Mathematics, said: “We’re pleased to be part of the national effort to foster and support knowledge exchange in Universities across the country and we look forward to working with Business, Industry and Government partners to strengthen collaboration and drive innovation powered by mathematical sciences.”

The KE hub is supported by a £2.1 million EPSRC grant which runs until 2029.
