The event showcased some of our leading and emerging talent to increase the visibility of female contributions to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, but also to inspire women, girls, and underrepresented genders to study these exciting subjects. Our celebration started with a talk by Professor Nina Snaith: Stories about Hollywood's Hippest mathematics: random matrices and primes. Nina's talk was followed by a panel discussion, chaired by Prof Andrew Hogg. The panellists shared their career path and the interesting work that they have done. The panellists were Nina Snaith (Mathematical Physics), Rachel Bennett (Mathematical Biology), Laura Monk (Pure Mathematics) and Asma Hassannezhad (Analysis). After the panel discussion, participants gathered for a pizza reception, where the conversation continued.
There were approximately 100 attendees, majority from local schools together with their parents or teachers. A further 15 screens followed the talk online, one of which was a school streaming to a classroom. The event ran smoothly and received an overwhelmingly positive reaction from the attendees, with many questions to the panellists and the speaker during and after the event.
