Bristol Benjamin Meaker Follow-on Fund
The Bristol Benjamin Meaker Visiting Researchers Follow-on Fund (BBMFoF) is designed to help facilitate the continued growth and development of the relationships cultivated during a Bristol Benjamin Meaker Distinguished Visiting Professorship (BBMDVP)* or a Bristol ‘Next Generation’ Visiting Researcher award*. The BBMFoF funding should be used to directly expand upon the developments made in the first visit and produce specific, tangible outcomes, such as research funding bids, policy briefings, and/or international co-authored publications.
What activities are supported
Reciprocal Visits
The UoB academic travelling to the original Visitor’s institution for a reciprocal visit; or
Return Visits
The original Visitor returning to the UoB for a second, shorter follow-on visit.
What is the level of funding available
For visits taking place in the 2024-25 UoB academic year up to £2000 is available per award, as accommodation will be provided in Bristol for returning visitors. Where the Visitor is from a Low- or Middle-Income Country (LMIC) we are willing and able to support higher costs where fully justified. All applications must demonstrate value for money.
For visits in 2025-26, applicants will be required to make their own accommodation arrangements and the maximum award value has been increased to £4000 reflective of this (£5000 where the Visitor is from an LMIC country).
Who can apply
- Collaborators who have successfully completed a BBMDVP* or Next Generation* visit within the last 24 months.
- The application must be submitted by the same individuals who were named as Visitor and UoB Host on the original application.
When to apply
- This call has no fixed deadlines. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until all available funds have been allocated.
- The review panel will meet as required and you can normally expect to hear the outcome within one month of your submission. Please note, it can occasionally take longer due to reviewer availability particularly during busy times or holiday periods.
- We recommend that you plan for the reciprocal/return visit to occur at least three months after your submission so that there is enough time for you to receive the outcome and make plans accordingly.
