The University of Bristol’s newly revised Benjamin Meaker Annual Awards (BMAA) programme is for year-long awards, during which the International Academic Collaborator and their University of Bristol (UoB) Academic Host will undertake collaborative research development, working towards joint funding bids, international co-authored publications, and knowledge exchange between our wider university communities.

Supported activities

  • Year-long collaborative research development leading to substantial research funding bids.
  • Travel between the two universities as part of this collaboration.
  • Workshops and/or events where they demonstrably add value to the collaborative project.
  • All activities must take place within the 2026-27 academic year.
  • It does not fund conferences or sustained research activity itself.

Level of funding available

  • Up to £20k is available per award for most applicants.
  • Up to £25k available per award for applications with an International Academic Collaborator from a Low- or Middle-Income Country (LMIC). Please check this with us as the BMAAs run in line with UKRI's policy on official development assistance (ODA) funding.
