Open Lecture: 'The Geste Francor in and beyond the Italian Peninsula'

29 February 2024, 4.00 PM - 29 February 2024, 5.15 PM

Bristol Benjamin Meaker Distinguished Visiting Professor Leslie Morgan, Loyola University Maryland, USA

Lecture Room 8, Arts Complex

Professor Leslie Morgan is a Bristol Benjamin Meaker Distinguished Visiting Professor. She is visiting from Loyola University Maryland, USA, and working with Professor Marianne Ailes in the Department of French on the project Franco-Italian Epic: Origins, range, and interpretations.

The Geste Francor contains nine of the most widely known narratives in the chanson-de-geste universe. The variants in its version demonstrate different interpretations of societal and religious roles. Close readings of the text and related texts will demonstrate examples of these.

All are welcome.
