George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four remains the go-to text for the general public’s sense of surveillance. It has also played an influential role in the academic examination of surveillance. But in the 21st century, does it retain its explanatory power? In this lecture, Professor Marks examine the validity of Orwell’s novel in our own time.
