Mendelian randomization

A core part of our work is understanding the factors that have a causal effect on cancer risk and progression so as to help us to develop treatments that target these factors and improve outcomes. A key method here is Mendelian randomization, which uses genetic information to understand causal risk factors. Watch the video to learn more about Mendelian randomization.

We focus on a range of areas that may be important in cancer risk, including obesity, metabolic health, inflammation, sleep, physical activity and smoking. We also use new methods that we have developed to look at the effects of these factors on cancer progression.
