Prof. Caroline Relton appears on BBC Radio 4 – Start the Week

On 13th November 2017 MRC IEU programme lead Prof. Caroline Relton joined big names from theatre, composition and literature to appear on Radio 4’s Start the Week to discuss inequality through a series of different lenses.

Discussing the field of epigenetics, Caroline introduced her work looking at how early life influences, including stress and other environmental factors, can impact our biology and have long term consequences on health.

On her experience Professor Relton said: “I was intrigued about what Alfred Hitchcock, Glasgow tenements, corporate manipulation of anger, and epigenetics could possibly have in common. The ensuing discussion of how early life events can influence our health and lifecourse that was woven together from these topics on live radio ended up being a really enjoyable experience. It was a lot easier than I’d anticipated to bring a scientific perspective to something that began as a conversation on a modern opera production!”
