Michael Bahrami from the NIHR Global Health Research Unit on Global Surgery will be talking about measuring the effect of surgical site infections on the quality of life among patients in low-to-middle income countries (SPECIES study).
Surgical site infections (SSIs) are the number one problem facing surgical patients in low-to-middle income countries. SSIs do not just increase mortality (death rates) among patients but also increase patients’ length of stay in hospital and delay return to work. The SPECIES study aims to measure the effect of SSIs on patients by looking at its effect on the quality of life of patients.
