Sustainability in the curriculum

The Sustainability in the Curriculum (SC) Special Interest Group champions the integration of sustainability teaching and learning in the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences (FHLS), to inspire change and build a more sustainable future.

Each member of the SC group shares a commitment to embedding sustainability into the curriculum in a relevant way. Members come from different academic disciplines, offering diverse perspectives and experiences from programmes across the Faculty. The group aims to construct a comprehensive picture of existing sustainability initiatives embedded within our curricula, and to build on these through sharing good practice. The group will also identify new opportunities for cross-school collaboration and in doing so, will strengthen the FHLS approach towards education for sustainable development.

Embedding sustainability is a key priority within the Faculty strategy, which recognises that listening to the voices of both staff and students is essential for progress in this area. The SC group will engage with staff and students across our community to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to shape our curricula. To support colleagues to drive positive change, the group will also organise staff training sessions, promote dialogue, and make connections across the Faculty to foster pedagogical research that advances sustainability education.

Current work

The newly formed Sustainability in the Curriculum Special Interest Group will begin its work by building a comprehensive picture of existing sustainability initiatives embedded within FHLS programmes, sharing best practice and identifying opportunities for collaboration across the Faculty.
