Study skills and employability

The Study Skills and Employability Special Interest Group (SIG) brings together colleagues from across the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences who share a commitment to supporting students’ career readiness, skills awareness, academic development, and personal and professional growth. The group provides a collaborative space to share effective academic practice, resources, and research related to study skills, employability, and student development.

The SIG aims to explore ways to build students’ awareness and confidence around employability, helping them recognise how the skills developed throughout their degree programmes apply to life and work beyond university. A persistent challenge in higher education is that students often find it difficult to identify where and how their studies contribute to transferable skills, and to articulate these strengths to potential employers. By promoting a clearer understanding of how academic learning connects with personal development and professional practice, the group seeks to empower students to appreciate the broader value of their degrees. A key focus will be on integrating the Bristol Skills Framework to support this work and enhance the visibility of employability within the curriculum.
