Assessment and feedback
The Assessment and Feedback Special Interest Group (SIG) brings together colleagues across the Faculty who are passionate about enhancing how we assess learning and provide feedback to students. Building on existing initiatives in inclusive, practical, workplace-based, and authentic assessment, the SIG provides a collaborative space to share practice, develop new approaches, and promote research-informed innovation.
Our collective aim is to strengthen assessment literacy and student engagement with feedback—helping learners not only to understand their marks, but also to recognise their ongoing growth in knowledge, skills, and professional identity. The SIG serves as a hub for discussion, development, and dissemination of effective strategies, supporting colleagues to design assessment and feedback processes that are fair, meaningful, and aligned with real-world expectations.
Current work
The Assessment and Feedback SIG is currently mapping good practice across the Faculty to identify shared challenges and opportunities for innovation. Early priorities include developing a community of practice around authentic and workplace-based assessment, exploring feedback literacy initiatives, and supporting colleagues to embed inclusivity within assessment design. The group will also host themed discussions and workshops to connect educators, professional services staff, and students in shaping the next phase of the Faculty’s assessment strategy.
Previous achievements
Although newly established, the Assessment and Feedback SIG builds on significant previous work across the Faculty that has championed authentic and inclusive assessment approaches. This includes developments in assessment technology, feedback strategies and frameworks, and the alignment of marking rubrics with professional competencies. These strong foundations provide a platform for the SIG to grow a network of practice, driving innovation and collaboration in assessment and feedback. We look forward to sharing our emerging achievements with you soon.
