Luciana, who is a Research Associate on the ERC Advanced/UKRI Horizon Guarantee project ‘MOWLIT: The Medieval March of Wales, 1282–1550’ (PI Prof. Helen Fulton), has recently secured a highly competitive 5-year tenure track Ramón y Cajal post which will take her to a permanent academic job in Spain.
Funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science, the Ramón y Cajal award is the most prestigious research contract in Spain. One of its main aims is to strengthen the academic provision in Spanish universities by providing funding leading to the creation of permanent posts.
Each year there are thousands of applications for these posts, which cover all disciplines, and the success rate is around 14%. In the field of philology, literature, and art, 16 contracts were awarded nationwide in Spain and Luciana was ranked third. She is also receiving additional funding to develop her research project in Spain.
Luciana will join the Department of English Studies at the Complutense University of Madrid in September 2026. This is the best university in Spain to study English, according to national rankings.
Luciana has been at the University of Bristol for three years, as a British Academy Newton Postdoctoral Fellow in 2023–25 and as a Research Associate on the MOWLIT project from 2025 to 2026.
