We are delighted to announce that Dr Emma-Catherine-Wilson will join the English Department as British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow (2026-2029) from 11 September. Emma's D.Phil. thesis, completed in 2025 (University of Oxford), was on the roles of heralds, chivalric ideology, and Anglo-French cultural exchange in the late Middle Ages.
She has published articles on heraldic texts, on privacy, and on cultural politics in Review of English Studies (2026), Medium Ævum (2025, 2026), New Medieval Literatures (2024), and Florilegium (2024).
While at Bristol she will be completing her current monograph project on heralds and start work on her new project, on Self-Deception in the Literature of Later Medieval England, with Ad Putter as her mentor.
