- Eminent graduate Professor Philip Ruffles CBE, FRS, FRENG visits ACCIS 28 April 2016 On Thursday 21 April Professor Philip Ruffles, a graduate of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bristol and formerly Director of Engineering and Technology at Rolls-Royce plc, returned to the University to visit the Advanced Composites Centre for Innovation and Science and to deliver a lecture to staff and students.

- Inspiring Red Arrows visit for competition finalists 2 March 2016 In February 2016 Laura Edwards and Rafael Luterbacher, both students in the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Advanced Composites for Innovation and Science (ACCIS CDT), visited the Red Arrows at RAF Scampton in Lincolnshire. The visit formed part of the prize for finalists of the 2015 ImechE Western Aerospace Competition.

The graduates included five ACCIS PhD students, four members of the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Advanced Composites for Innovation and Science (denoted by ‘ACCIS CDT’ below) and five MSc students in Advanced Composites.
- Centre for Defence Enterprise award aids research for military aerospace applications 9 February 2016 The Advanced Composites Centre for Innovation and Science (ACCIS) and additive manufacturing specialists, HiETA Technologies Ltd, have been awarded £110k to investigate novel bio-inspired metal-composite joint designs for military aerospace applications.
- ACCIS teams up with the Sir Henry Royce Institute to research the concept of gradient matrices 4 February 2016 Seed funding from the Faculty of Engineering will bring together researchers in the Advanced Composites Centre for Innovation and Science and the Sir Henry Royce Institute for Advanced Materials Research at the University of Manchester to explore the feasibility of reducing both internal and macro stress concentrations with the aim of improving composite strength.
- Delivering the internet of the future - at the speed of light and open sourced 2 February 2016 New research has found, for the first time, a scientific solution that enables future internet infrastructure to become completely open and programmable while carrying internet traffic at the speed of light.
- Pump-priming bid leads way for research into structurally and functionally enhanced composites 2 February 2016 Researchers in the Advanced Composites Centre for Innovation and Science (ACCIS) have been awarded a pump-priming grant of £4.9K from the Faculty of Engineering Research Pump Priming Fund to bring together two novel concepts in composites manufacture which have the potential to generate exceptional composite properties.
- ACCIS CDT triumphs for third consecutive year in best student paper awards 29 January 2016 Eric Eckstein, a PhD student in the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Advanced Composites for Innovation and Science (ACCIS CDT), has won the prestigious Jefferson Goblet award for overall best student paper at the 57th AIAA/ASCE/AHS/ASC Structures, Structural Dynamics and Materials Conference. Held this year in San Diego, USA, in conjunction with the SciTech Forum and Exposition, this event is the largest aerospace gathering in the world.
- ACCIS CDT student breaks new ground with 3D printing technique 20 January 2016 A research team in the Advanced Composites Centre for Innovation and Science (ACCIS) has developed a new type of 3D printing that can print composite materials which are used in many high performance products such as tennis rackets, golf clubs and aeroplanes.
