Tackling discrimination

Our aim is to make the Faculty of Engineering a place where all staff and students can thrive, whatever their gender, ethnic background, religion, sexual orientation or personal circumstances.

There are university-wide procedures in place so staff and students can report incidents of discrimination. To complement the University's Report and Support initiative, The Faculty of Engineering has created a Equality and Diversity Radar to monitor low level discrimination (or micro-aggression). By capturing specific data in this way, we can direct support and assistance where it is really needed.

Micro-aggressions may be the result of unconscious bias. Our brains make incredibly quick judgements which are influenced by our background, cultural environment and life experience. We encourage staff and students to be aware of such views and opinions and challenge behaviour that might have a negative impact on our inclusive culture.
