Yanos Zylberberg (Bristol)

Priory Road Complex, Lecture Theatre

For the Economics Undergraduate Seminar of the year we will have Yanos Zylberberg, Senior Lecturer at the University of Bristol, give the following talk: 'Introduction to research, an east side story'.

Abstract: Why are the east side of formerly industrial cities often more deprived? The structural transformation of the economy involves large movement of population from rural to urban areas. In parallel cities have become production centers with manufacturing establishments and factories competing with residents for land. This process operating in Victorian England or in developing countries nowadays may markedly effect the structures of cities in the long run. How do we understand such process when  it requires very precise data from 150 years ago? The answer will involve new methodologies in economic history coupled with insight from urban/environmental economics.
