School (KS1 - KS4) outcomes are rigid, KS1 delivery is flexible
Teacher is gatekeeper ? attitude affects use of the device
Device could be used 100% of the time
Device is a catalyst for breaking (?), will expose relationship between teacher and pupil
Leadership team needs licence to innovate
Mainstream use alongside new use
Podcast disguise - make it cool, accessible
Accessibility is used as an excuse not to use new delivery - employ lowest common denominator
Don't assume space for a PC in the home
What more do we need to know?
About learning outside the institution in own time
In the home - about having device and influence on parents - possibilities for permanent (lifelong?) education
How curriculum and approaches to teaching will/should change
About different approaches and relationship to ICT
What do we need to do/can we do about it?
Enable sharing sessions in institution to allow students to share what they have found in their own time - encourage students to write instructions for other learners
Teachers (their attitude is crucial) → personal learning mentor
Enable/encourage a licence to innovate
[Accessibility] Provide a common device ? at Uni level with mobile contract (subsidised?) - parents can pay pint a week
Agree learning protocol - "contract" on when to use, responsible use etc.
