About the event

ECHO and Early Education are delighted to host Dr. Nathan Archer in this topical and timely CPD event for anyone interested in the care, education and well being of our youngest children.
In this era of ever shifting and intensifying policy demands in early education, it can be easy to let regulatory requirements, pressures of
promoting ‘school readiness’ and multiple mandated interventions, crowd our spaces for work with young children. While juggling these external pressures, early educators are also working hard to respond to the needs of each unique child.
This thought provoking session will explore the challenges and affordances of navigating, mediating and subverting policy demands, taking consideration of what this can mean for educators, and the children and families with whom they work. Critical questions about the locus of control and how educators own values, beliefs and principles fit into the current landscape will be explored.
Case studies of educators’ work will examine the concepts of ‘ethical subversions’ (Morris, 2021) and ‘micro resistances’ (Archer, 2022) in terms of educators taking control of what is possible, in order for morally committed practice to flourish.
