10 October 2023, 4.15 PM - 10 October 2023, 6.15 PM

Professor Colin Wilson FRS, Benjamin Meaker Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of Bristol

Wills Memorial Building, G25

We are very pleased to welcome Professor Colin Wilson FRS to the University of Bristol as a Benjamin Meaker Distinguished Visiting Professor. During his visit, Colin will be giving a public lecture on: The Life and Times of Supervolcanoes.

Abstract:

Supervolcanoes are defined by them having explosive supereruptions (>1000 cubic kilometres of pumice and ash). A continuing challenge is understanding how supervolcanoes behave past and present and over what timescales, up to and including those of human interest. This talk summarises work tackling this challenge on supervolcanoes in New Zealand and the USA.

This is an in person lecture that will be followed by a drinks reception at the venue. The event is free and all are welcome. Reserve your place using the button on this invitation.
