The Bristol SEG Student Chapter would like to welcome all Earth Sciences students to a lunch and a discussion session with the university's AEGIS Professor in Sustainable Resources and their new academic sponsor, Dr John Thompson.
John is a mineral resource expert who has had a range of different roles over almost 40 years in the minerals industry. He currently works for Petra. He has previously worked with Teck Resources, Rio Tinto and BP Minerals. John has also had a diverse range of leadership roles in many organisations including serving as President of the Society of Economic Geologists, as well as the Chair of Resources for Future Generations and for Genome BC. He was the co-founder and chair of both Geoscience BC and the Canada Mining Innovation Council, and he is also a member of two councils for the World Economic Forum. John also sits on the Boards of many exploration and technology companies, as well as advisory groups for venture capital, clean technology and sustainability.
This will be a wonderful opportunity to discuss the future of mining, any careers questions you may have about working in the mining industry, and anything else.
A pizza lunch will be provided.
