Why choose Bristol?
Our undergraduate teaching incorporates information technology, quantitative skills and environmental science. Our courses are structured to take account of the changing patterns of employment of geologists.
PhD students receive training in technical and transferable skills whilst being guided in their research by one or more supervisors.
Our facilities
We are home to state-of-the-art laboratories which can:
- simulate temperature and pressure conditions at hundreds of kilometres deep within our planet;
- recreate conditions in ancient oceans and atmospheres;
- enable us to understand the cycling of carbon in the environment;
- help us investigate the evolution of life on Earth.
World class research
98% of our research activity is considered to be in the top two categories: world-leading (4*) and internationally excellent (3*).
Results are from the most recent UK-wide assessment of research quality, conducted by the Higher Education Funding Council for England.
