Implant Care and Maintenance

This course is designed to equip the dental team with the skills and confidence needed to identify, monitor, and treat peri-implant disease. It includes a mix of theoretical knowledge and practical hands-on aspects. Key topics will encompass the monitoring, assessment, and evaluation of the oral health of implant patients through various diagnostic methods.

Course Requirements: You need to be registered with the General Dental council as a dentist, hygienist or therapist in order to be eligible for this course. 

Course Objectives

  1. You will be able to recognise the different implant types and components. 
  2. Discuss the importance of achieving a healthy oral environment prior to replacement of teeth with an implant   
  3. You will be able to explain to the patient the impact of their periodontal health, including compliance with oral healthcare advice, potential effect on general health and the need for self-care in the overall treatment plan and how this influences their treatment outcome  
  4. Gain knowledge in diagnosing peri implant disease using evidence-based guidelines to help develop practice protocols   
  5. Describe the risks related to dental implant therapy and manage the health of peri-implant tissue  
  6. Assess own capabilities and limitations and refer patients for specialist treatment or advice when and where appropriate  

Other Key Information

You will gain hands on experience of probing and debridement techniques and EMS guided biofilm therapy and the care and knowledge of implant instruments.
