Clearing place: next steps

Find out the next steps once you have a Clearing place at Bristol, including finding accommodation, applying for funding, getting your CAS number and arranging disability support.

Accommodation

If you have got a place at Bristol through Clearing, you can apply for university accommodation.

International (overseas) undergraduate students who get a Clearing place and apply for accommodation by 27 July are guaranteed an offer of university accommodation.

Alternatively, you can find accommodation with a private landlord.

Tuition fees and funding

Make sure you make financial arrangements to cover your tuition fees and living costs before starting your course. Tuition fees are listed for each course on the online course finder.

Visas

Most international students will need a visa to come to the UK to study.

Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS)

Once you have firmly accepted an unconditional offer to study at Bristol and have sent us a copy of your passport, we will email you a Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies (CAS).

A CAS is a unique electronic reference number and accompanying electronic virtual document containing information about your course of study, as well as your personal details.

If you have studied in the UK on a Student visa previously, we will need to make some additional checks to assess your eligibility for a CAS. If you hold a Student visa for a different university, it will not be valid for studying at the University of Bristol. Please respond promptly to any requests for information and read our guidance on the Student Visas webpages about Academic Progression requirements.

Your CAS will be issued by the Admissions team handling your application to the University, not the Student Visa Advice team.

You can read more about the CAS and how you will receive it on the Student Visa Advice webpages.

Applying for your visa

You must enter your CAS number on your visa application form.

Having a CAS does not guarantee your visa application will be successful; you must still meet all the other eligibility criteria.

If you notice any errors in the information contained in your CAS, email student-visas@bristol.ac.uk before making a visa application.

If you are applying for your visa from overseas, we would advise you to use the priority or super priority service. Applications often take longer than the service standard in August and September, and Welcome Week starts on 14 September.
