Wuge Briscoe awarded 2026 Thomas Graham Lectureship

The School of Chemistry's Professor Wuge Briscoe has been selected to give the 2026 Thomas Graham Lecture by the joint Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC)/Society of Chemical Industry (SCI) Colloids Group committee.

The biennial award is given to those working in the UK who are in the prime of their research careers, have established an international reputation in colloid science, and have already made distinguished contributions to the field of colloid science. The winner is expected to give a lecture and will be presented with a certificate.

The lecture was established in 2011 in honour of Thomas Graham, who in 1841 founded the Chemical Society of London and was its first president. He coined the term “colloid” in 1861 and is widely regarded as the principal “founding father” of colloid science. He also formulated Graham's law of diffusion and was the last person to hold the position as the Master of the Royal Mint from 1855 to 1869.

Professor Briscoe currently leads the School of Chemistry's Environment and Energy research theme. His research interests include direct measurement of surface forces mediated by surfactants, polymers and nanofluids, and fundamental aspects of biolubrication and nanotoxicity.
