First established in 1984, the award recognises outstanding technical contributions to aerosol science and technology by a young scientist. It memorialises Kenneth T. Whitby, who established the University of Minnesota's Particle Technology Laboratory. He was known for his contributions to aerosol measurement, the study of aerosol properties and behaviour, and the nature of atmospheric aerosols.
Bryan's pioneering work within aerosols spans various themes, including the surface composition of microscopic droplets; new particle formation in the atmosphere; and the physicochemical properties of respiratory aerosols.
The conference took place between 21 and 25 October and featured four plenary lectures.
