Please use this form to apply for this year's Journal

Formed in 2017, BILT’s mission is to inspire education innovation across the University and champion students as co-creators and researchers; of which the Student Research Journal plays a vital part. BILT employs a team of Student Fellows annually to work on different project themes, one of which is the production and creation of the Student Research Journal and Conference.

BILT’s Student Research Journal is an online, peer-reviewed journal, dedicated to the encouragement of students and the wider academic community to value student research. All articles are subject to thorough peer-review, after making it past a competitive selection process. The deadline to apply for editorial boards for the 2026 Journal has now passed.

The journal publishes outstanding work from across the University’s three faculties, highlighting the diversity and breadth in the work of Bristol students, and enables valuable professional experience in reading and editing submissions, carrying out the peer-review process and preparing papers for publication, for the all-student publication board.

We hope the journal will encourage students to see themselves as researchers and promote the view that they are valued members of the academic community at the University of Bristol. The deadline for journal submissions is 20th March 2026.

We also run the Student Research Conference (formally known as the Student Research Festival) which offers students the opportunity to present their work to academics and peers. This year we created space for students to get feedback on their research before submitting to the Student Research Journal. The conference had three winning presentations, selected by expert judges. These presentations will be featured in the Journal's highlights magazine in the summer.

This year's winners were:

  • Science and Engineering: Luka Kadrikj
  • Arts, Social Sciences and Law: Thadora Gallie
  • Health and Life Sciences: Jo Cochrane
  • Best poster: Natasha Davis

Important note: if you choose to publish your journal paper with us, you can not publish it in another journal. You can present your research at our conference and still publish it another journal, however.
