Education Development Project Mentors
Applications for 22/23 are now closed.
Provides funding of £50 per day for up to 10 days, in exchange for providing mentoring support to Education Development Project holders. Mentors work aligns with at least one of BILT’s specified project themes which change annually (see 22/23 themes below). Funding can be used to supplement activities or resources to support scholarship or professional development.
This opportunity is open to academic and professional services staff from across the University who have a passion for supporting colleagues to develop and evaluate effective pedagogic innovation projects. Staff employed on all pathways/grades and on both full and part-time contracts are eligible.
Mentors should have a depth of relevant experience and knowledge in one or more of the project theme areas, as well as demonstrable experience of running and evaluating education innovations and initiatives in order to best support Education Development Project holders.
BILT Mentors are assigned Education Development Projects to support and their time is spent on all or a combination of the following activities:
- Attending/leading BILT Education Development Project holder meetings and workshops .
- Advising and signposting project holders to guidance and resources to support their projects.
- Providing guidance on ethics approval .
- Advising on project methodology and the evaluative approach.
- Advising on dissemination of project outcomes, next steps and sustainability of the project .
Project themes
Mentors have now been selected for 22/23 and their support aligns with the one of the following themes informed by the University’s education strategy and BILT’s priorities:
Students belonging and wellbeing in the curriculum. For example:
- How can we design curricula and sessions to build students sense of belonging and promote their wellbeing?
- What kind of activities and engagement help include all students, help bring them together and improve their wellbeing?
Designing active learning sessions – in-person and online. For example:
- How can we design in-person session to attract and engage students?
- How can we engage students with online material to complement the in-person session?
Assessment and feedback. For example:
- Assessment that promotes student agency across all years of a programme, including projects and research .
- Authentic assessment and assessment reflecting the Bristol Skills Framework .
- Group projects and group dissertations.
