75th Anniversary - Workshop: Building a Play

This practical playwriting workshop will give you tools that will turn the tiniest original idea into a writable play project. We’ll show you how to test your ideas, build forms and structures, find characters and scenes, create shapes for your story, make your ideas resonate. You’ll be invited to ask yourself and your play interesting questions to make you think about it anew, gain new insights into what it’s really about for you and the world.

Participants need to bring an idea. This should be the beginning of an idea for a play (but not something you’ve already written). It could be: an image; a question; a topic; an action; a character; or a style. We’ll work on this idea in the workshop.

The workshop will be led by David Greig and Dan Rebellato who first met doing Drama at the University of Bristol in the 1980s and have been friends ever since, often collaborating, always talking and thinking about theatre.
