The Learning Disabilities Mortality Review

The Learning Disabilities Mortality Review (LeDeR) Programme is aimed at making improvements to the lives of people with learning disabilities. Reviews are being carried out with a view to improve the standard and quality of care. People with learning disabilities and carers have been central to developing the programme.

The Learning Disabilities Mortality Review (LeDeR) Programme stems from earlier work by the same team on the Confidential Inquiry into People with Learning Disabilities (CIPOLD) which showed the median age at death for males with learning disabilities was 13 years younger than the national population average and 20 years younger for females. The LeDer Programme is delivered by the University of Bristol and commissioned by the Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership (HQIP) on behalf of NHS England. The programme is the first of its kind and its overall aims are to i) support improvements in the quality of health and social care service delivery and ii) help reduce premature mortality and health inequalities for people with learning disabilities.
