Vocalisations

Vocalisations are the variety of sounds that a dog makes. Read through the following behavioural signs, look at the pictures and watch the video examples. Once you have used this page, continue onto other reactions.

The following vocalisations are likely to indicate anxiety or fear:

  • Whining, whimpering or yelping in response to a situation

 

  • Howling

  • A change in pitch of barking

 

  • An increase in barking in new situations

 

  • Barking as a first response to many situations (noises, people, other animals etc)
