Veterinary Pathology
is part of the Division of Veterinary Pathology, Infection & Immunity within the School of Clinical Veterinary Science .  The unit is situated in the Churchill Building at Langford House, 15 miles from Bristol, in the south-west of England.  The members of staff teach Pathology and Immunology to veterinary undergraduate students.  Immunology is taught in the third year and Pathology is taught in years three and four.  The Veterinary Pathology unit provides histopathological services for the Department, for Langford Veterinary Services and for Veterinary Surgeons in general practice.  The well-equipped histology laboratory also has facilities for histochemistry, immunohistochemistry and for electron microscopy
and participates in the Cellular Pathology Technique quality assessment scheme run by UKNEQAS.  Acarus, the University of Bristol's dedicated laboratory for the PCR-detection of arthropod-borne infectious diseases in companion animals, is located in the same building. A post-mortem room is shared with the staff of the Veterinary Laboratories Agency at Langford which is part of the Veterinary Investigations Agency of the Department for Environment, Farming and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).  Postgraduate training in Veterinary Pathology is available to suitable candidates and there are also opportunities for postgraduate MSc and PhD degrees by research.  These places are limited by the availability of funding and as opportunities arise they are advertised.
Enquiries sent to Veterinary Pathology will be replied to whenever possible and appropriate.  Please note that questions relating to actual clinical cases cannot be answered and question subjects should generally be limited to techniques or services included in our web pages.  Any enquiries regarding University courses should be directed to the Admissions Office.  Your computer should be set to display more than 256 colours to view the images that are included on this site.
