Financial Management

What will this project deliver?

The Financial Management project will put in place a new reporting tool to enable:

  1. Provision of online enquiry and drill down facilities to enable faster decision-making and quicker resolution of queries.
  2. Availability of both income and expenditure information at the appropriate budgeting/reporting unit level within Faculties and Departments to allow more informed decision-making.
  3. Improved ability to plan and budget through provision of predictive forecasting tools that better utilise historic and current data.
  4. Presentation of financial information in a readily understandable and reconcilable format to non-accountants within Faculties, Departments and Committees.

In the first instance this tool will be applied to financial data, but it is expected that it will be extended in the future to report on non-financial data.

Why are we doing this?

This project has been initiated in response to two things.  The first was a review undertaken by PriceWaterHouseCoopers and the second was a consultation of staff at all levels in the University.  Both indicated that there was a growing demand for greater access to financial information to enable forecasting and more effective management of budgets.

This project has now been prioritised by the University and a project team has been established to take forward preparing a statement of requirements, tendering for a supplier of such a system, and finally implementation of the system across the University.
