This unit is set for students to acquire skills of designing composite products and their manufacturing processes. The lectures and practical sessions will provide comprehensive knowledge of design principles and intellectual property required for general product development processes as well as the core knowledge of composites processing, manufacturing, tooling, computer-aided design, and conceptual design.
On successful completion of the unit, students will be able to:
Classroom based lectures, lab demonstration, and practical sessions in the computer labs.
The unit will be assessed through a project report on composite product design and manufacture (40%), a project report on process simulations (40%), and a presentation (20%).
Appropriate references are supplied on the lectures for each component of the course.
