Description including Unit Aims
This unit aims to provide students with an understanding of the basic research methods used in management research. It will enable students to explore the purpose and appropriate use of both qualitative and quantitative research methods. The unit introduces basic principles of conducting management research using questionnaires, interviews, focus groups and observation and explores issues around the analysis of qualitative and quantitative data.
Intended Learning Outcomes
By the end of the unit, students should be able to:
- Appreciate the range of methodologies in management research.
- Demonstrate competence in locating, analysing and integrating a body of literature related to a focal management topic.
- Set out the principles of designing a viable research study.
- Understand selected data collection and data analysis methods.
Teaching Information
The unit will be taught through 14 Lectures and 12 Classes.
Assessment Information
100% coursework in the form of a 3000 word research report.
The research report is designed to assess the intended learning outcomes of the unit.
A 1000 word report: a critique of a qualitative and quantitative research article to consider the key elements of good research.
