PGCE bursaries and scholarships

Generous tax-free bursaries and scholarships are available from the UK government for graduates training to be a teacher on the Postgraduate Certificate for Education (PGCE) course.

Tax-free bursaries and scholarships are available for trainees on eligible PGCE courses in England. Students with a 2:1 or above can apply for a scholarship which is paid instead of the bursary. Amounts will vary depending on teaching subject.

Additional information on PGCE bursaries is available on the Bursaries and Scholarships page of the Get into Teaching website.

Currently all PGCE courses at the University of Bristol qualify for a PGCE bursary or scholarship.

How to apply

Bursaries and scholarships are available for trainees on eligible postgraduate courses in England.

In addition to the bursaries and scholarships, PGCE students are also eligible to apply for government loans for tuition fees and living costs from their regional funding provider.

Applications for 2020/21 will open in the autumn. Aim to apply early as teacher training places can fill quickly. More information can be found on the School of Education’s website.
