"I had a great time living here this year. Before coming, I was worried that living in an all girls' house would be a little too much, but I've made an amazing set of friends in the house, and we've decided to live together next year as well! It's great living so close to everything, the university, the nightlife, shopping... I've only taken a taxi home once this whole year.
I thought that by living in a student house I would be isolated from the university life, and
that I would miss out on the halls experience, but the fact is, I feel even more involved than people in Stoke Bishop. Living so close means that you can have your course mates over for breaks between lectures, people can easily stop by to see you, and Orbital has ensured that we partied with the other people in student houses, so it feels like we're one big hall community anyway.
The rooms are much bigger and much nicer than any hall rooms I've seen so far, and the house is generally much cleaner and homely too. I would strongly recommend it, and to be quite honest, I'm sad I can't carry on living here next year too."
"97 Woodland Road is possibly the best location of all the university properties. It is so close to Uni, Cabot Circus (the massive shopping mall), the town centre, the train station, the clubs and pubs for a night out - I have never walked more than 25 minutes to get anywhere from our house.
At first I was unsure about living with only 8 other people but by the end of the year I could not be happier with how things turned out! Everyone of the girls in my house have become my closest friends and our house was never short of things going on - it is the perfect house for hosting house parties as it is near to all the clubs and has a garden to spill into if the rest of the house gets to full, its amazing how many extra people this house can accommodate!
And the old wives tale that people living in houses miss out on the social lives of halls - very untrue. Orbital acts as the JCR for everyone living out of halls, which means that the social network becomes 900+ people, much bigger than any hall in Stoke Bishop!"
"Although being slightly dubious at first about living at 97 Woodland Road,
it turned out to be a great place to spend my first year. Anyone looking to live in this house should note that it probably has one of the greatest locations going and the rooms in comparison to larger accommodations are really big. Plus, if you are lucky enough to get housemates you get along with, then you have the opportunity to get to know them really well with their only being nine of you.
I would say however, if you are looking for the traditional 'uni halls' experience- this is not the place for you. Although you do become a member of Orbital, due to the fact most of the houses are scattered across Bristol, you do not have the advantage of proximity of living environment. I would say you lose out on the fact you don't eat together or have flats close by and therefore your capacity to meet lots and lots of people becomes limited. Perhaps, 97 Woodland Road is better suited for the more studious prospective students."
