Booking terms and conditions

Please read the following information before requesting a place on a course. By booking a place on a course you are agreeing to these terms and conditions.

Before applying

  • Read the course description carefully to ensure that the content fits your learning needs.
  • Check that you meet any prerequisites for the course.
  • If appropriate, seek approval from your line manager before booking.

Book online

All of our courses and events are listed throughout this site within their relevant sections. Places are booked via OnCourse, our online booking system.
Most courses are booked on a first-come-first-served basis. Places on courses will be confirmed by email from the online booking system.

Course limit

You are allowed to attend up to a maximum of three short courses or workshops from Staff Development per academic year. Please note: If you send in more than three booking requests for each academic year, you will only be enrolled on the first three available courses. Please contact us if you would like to discuss attending more than three courses.

Course costs

We ask that all members of staff booking on to our courses provide us with a charge code (EL1, EL2, EL3). For paid courses this enables us to process payments efficiently. For non-paid courses and workshops we will only use this code in the event of late cancellation or non-attendance.

There is no booking fee for the majority of our professional skills workshops. There will be a charge for attending leadership and management courses and programmes. Please see individual course descriptions for specific information regarding charges. In addition, please note our fees for late cancellation and our non-attendance fees below.

Late cancellation and non-attendance

A non-attendance fee will be charged to your department if:

  • Your booking has been confirmed by email or by Staff Development but you do not attend the course.
  • You do not (or are unable to) let us know you cannot attend a course more than three full working days prior to the start time of the course. (Please note that this notification period may vary; always check the individual course details).

Current late cancellation/non-attendance fees

The late cancellation/non-attendance fee is £50 per course for the majority of professional skills workshops and £100 for Leadership and Management courses. This amount will be deducted from your department's budget. The fee goes towards covering our administrative, catering and tutor costs.

We ask that you provide a charge code for potential course fees at the time of booking on to a course.

Cancellations

If you need to cancel your place on a course you must let us know at least three full working days prior to the start time of the course.

Course cancellations can be submitted either by email or telephone. If you are unable to cancel your place on a course directly with us, please ask somebody to cancel your place for you. This will ensure that you are not charged a late cancellation fee. In order to ensure a fair system, please do not send someone to a course in your place, as there may be others waiting to attend in the event of a cancellation.

Sickness

If you are unable to attend a workshop or course due to sickness, please can you or a member of your team notify Staff Development by email to: sd-course@bristol.ac.uk as soon as possible on the day of the course, if not before.

Access requirements

We aim to make our learning and development opportunities accessible to all staff. Please let us know if you require any reasonable adjustments to enable access, for example:

  • Level access to venue
  • BSL/SSE interpreters
  • Course handouts in advance, or in alternative formats (Braille, large print, electronically)
