Development opportunities and useful resources

Our vision is to provide an environment for clarity, honesty and a renewed perspective for our research staff. Time to learn and to reflect. Space to explore choices. We therefore offer a range of opportunities to empower you to thrive by developing your skills and by considering your career development.

10 days professional development

Did you know that as an academic member of staff at Bristol you have 10 days' professional development time pro rata per year?

Speak to your line manager/PI to discuss how you can make best use of this development time to plan your career.‌

Career guidance for former UoB students

If you are now a member of research staff, but were a student of the University of Bristol, then you can access the University's career guidance provision for up to three years after you graduate.

Use Vitae to develop your career in or outside academia

Vitae are a non-profit professional development programme, with over 50 years’ experience of enhancing the skills of researchers. They provide training and resources, events and consultancy. All UoB members of staff have a Vitae membership – just create an account using your Bristol email address.
