Development opportunities and useful resources
Our vision is to provide an environment for clarity, honesty and a renewed perspective for our research staff. Time to learn and to reflect. Space to explore choices. We therefore offer a range of opportunities to empower you to thrive by developing your skills and by considering your career development.
This section provides an overview of our course offer. Our workshops are aimed to support you with your career development and include a range of topics from presentation skills to being strategic about your career.
Research in practice
Research in practice is aimed at all staff working on a research project, including academic staff currently holding, or planning to apply for research funding. This programme practically supports teams in the way that they do research by offering a combination of focused information sessions and more in-depth development workshops.
Bristol Clear 1:1s
The coaching-style 1:1s are provided for research staff on Pathway 2, to give you the opportunity to review your career options; whether you're considering a future within, or outside of academia.
By joining the Bristol Clear Mentoring Scheme you will be matched with a mentor outside of your disciplinary area, who will help you to develop your career here, or into your next position.
Developing your career - resources
Visit our career development resources: Developing a career strategy or planning a career change takes time. Irrespective of whether you wish to stay in an academic environment, it is worth using our resources to explore, reflect and plan.
Did you know that through being a signatory of the Concordat, the University of Bristol will ‘provide opportunities, structured support, encouragement and time for researchers to engage in a minimum of 10 days' professional development pro rata per year, recognising that researchers will pursue careers across a wide range of employment sectors’?
We would encourage you to speak to your PI to discuss how you can make best use of the development time on offer to you to plan your career.
You can now search, book and access development opportunities through Develop.
