Cancellation fee: Your Division/Faculty will incur a £50 charge to your School should you fail to attend on the day or cancel your place any later than three full working days before the course.

Sickness: If you are unable to attend the course due to sickness, please can you or a member of your team notify us by email sd-course@bristol.ac.uk as soon as possible on the day of the course, if not before.

Please read the following information before requesting a place on a course.

Before applying

How to book

To sign up for most of our courses you will need to use OnCourse, our online booking system. This is a self-service system available to all staff in the University to which you will be directed via the links on our pages.  You will need your University user id and password to log onto the system. NB. If you are attending a course as part of CREATE, please use the CREATE opening level statement form you will have received during your CREATE briefing session.

We recommend that course applications are endorsed by your Line Manager; although we accept that this is not always possible it is good practice to make your Line Manager or Principal Investigator (PI) aware of an application to attend a training session.  Note however that OnCourse will not require endorsement in the booking process.

Please be aware that you are allowed to attend a maximum of six courses per six-month period. The periods are August to January and February to July each year.

It is very important that, before you book on to a course, you check the course information carefully to make sure that the course is right for you – several of our courses require prior attendance at other sessions first or are tailored to a specific sub-group of academic staff.

Most courses are booked on a first-come-first-served basis. Places on courses will be confirmed by email from the online booking system.

Email: sd-course@bristol.ac.uk

Course limit

You are allowed to attend up to a maximum of six courses or workshops per academic year.

Please note: If you send in more than six booking requests for each academic year, you will only be enrolled on the first six available courses. Any further bookings requested will be discarded.

Enquiries

Course costs

There is no booking fee for the majority of Academic Staff Development workshops. Please see individual course descriptions for further information regarding any charges. In addition, please note our fees for late cancellation and non-attendance fees below.

Course booking and cancellation policy

Should you become aware that you will be unable to attend a booked course, please un-book your place via OnCourse immediately in order that we can notify the trainer and offer your place to someone on the waiting list.

With places for these courses being limited, we ask that you only book a place when you are certain you will be able to attend. In an emergency please email sd-course@bristol.ac.uk.

If you need to cancel your place on a course you must let us know at least three full working days prior to the start time of the course. Course cancellations can be submitted either by email to: sd-course@bristol.ac.uk If you are unable to cancel your place on a course directly with us, please ask someone to cancel your place for you. This will ensure that you are not charged a late cancellation fee.

In order to ensure a fair system, please do not send someone to a course in your place, as there may be others waiting to attend in the event of a cancellation.

Late cancellation and non-attendance

A non-attendance fee will be charged to your department if:

Please be aware that for short courses, failure to cancel your place three full working days before a course or failure to attend a course will incur a £50 charge to your school. To ensure a fair system, please do not send someone to a course in your place, as there may be others waiting to attend in the event of a cancellation.

For longer programmes, we have specific non-attendance policies and fees so please refer the page for that programme to find details.

Sickness

If you are unable to attend a workshop or course due to sickness, please can you or a member of your team notify Academic Staff Development by telephone or email as soon as possible on the day of the course, if not before.
