Booking terms and conditions


Important: Please seek approval from your line manager or equivalent before booking onto this course. Please note, Research PhD students are welcome to book onto appropriate courses two weeks before the start date of the course. This is because places are reserved for staff in the first instance. Please contact to request a place.

Cancellation fee: Your Division/Faculty will incur a £50 charge to your School should you fail to attend on the day or cancel your place any later than three full working days before the course.

Sickness: If you are unable to attend the course due to sickness, please can you or a member of your team notify us by email as soon as possible on the day of the course, if not before.

Where to book

Most courses are booked on a first-come-first-served basis. Places on courses will be confirmed by email from the online booking system.

Course limit

You are allowed to attend up to a maximum of six courses or workshops per academic year.

Please note: If you send in more than six booking requests for each academic year, you will only be enrolled on the first six available courses. Any further bookings requested will be discarded.

Course costs

There is no booking fee for the majority of Academic Staff Development workshops. Please see individual course descriptions for further information regarding any charges. In addition, please note our fees for late cancellation and non-attendance fees below.

Late cancellation and non-attendance

A non-attendance fee will be charged to your department if:

Late cancellation/non-attendance fees

The late cancellation/non-attendance fee is £50 per course and will automatically be deducted from your School budget. This fee goes towards covering our administrative, catering and tutor costs.


If you need to cancel your place on a course you must let us know at least three full working days prior to the start time of the course. Course cancellations can be submitted either by email to: If you are unable to cancel your place on a course directly with us, please ask someone to cancel your place for you. This will ensure that you are not charged a late cancellation fee.

In order to ensure a fair system, please do not send someone to a course in your place, as there may be others waiting to attend in the event of a cancellation.


If you are unable to attend a workshop or course due to sickness, please can you or a member of your team notify Academic Staff Development by telephone or email as soon as possible on the day of the course, if not before.
